Dr. Fava obtained his MD from the University of Padova School of Medicine where he completed residency training in endocrinology. He completed residency training in psychiatry at Mass General. He founded and was Director of the hospital’s Depression Clinical and Research Program (DCRP) from 1990 to 2014. In 2007, he founded and is now Executive Director of the Mass General Psychiatry Clinical Trials Network and Institute (CTNI), the first academic CRO specialized in planning and coordination of multi-center clinical trials in psychiatry.

Under Dr. Fava’s direction, the DCRP became one of the most highly regarded depression programs in the country, a model for academic programs that link, in a bi-directional fashion, clinical and research work. Dr. Fava has been successful in obtaining funding as principal or co-principal investigator from both the National Institutes of Health and other sources for a total of more than $95,000,000. His prominence in the field is reflected in his role as the co-principal investigator of STAR*D, the largest research study ever conducted in the area of depression, and of the RAPID Network, the NIMH-funded series of studies of novel, rapidly-acting antidepressant therapies.

Dr. Fava is a world leader in the field of depression. He has authored or co-authored more than 800 original articles published in medical journals with international circulation, edited eight books, and published more than 50 chapters and over 600 abstracts.

Maurizio Fava, MD

Dr. Timothy Wilens is chief of the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and is co-director of the Center for Addiction Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital.

David H. Rubin, MD

Director of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Residency Training Massachusetts General Hospital and McLean Hospital

Dr. Rubin is the Director of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Residency Training Program of Massachusetts General Hospital and McLean Hospital and the Director of Postgraduate Education for Massachusetts General Hospital. He also serves as the Executive Director for the MGH Psychiatry Academy.

Dr. Rubin completed an internship in Internal Medicine and a residency in general psychiatry at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center prior to his fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at MGH and McLean hospital. Following fellowship, Dr. Rubin joined the faculty of New York-Presbyterian/ Weill Cornell Medical Center where he served as Director of Inpatient Services, Director of the Day Hospital, Site Training Director and ultimately as Service Chief before returning to MGH and McLean to assume the directorship of the program that trained him.

Dr. Rubin’s biological research focuses on the genotypic and phenotypic characterization of social withdrawal in children and adolescents, with a particular emphasis on how this relates to severe depression and anxiety in youth. Dr. Rubin also conducts medical education research in innovation, design, implementation, dissemination and outcome measurement.
Dr. Rubin’s clinical career has largely concentrated on severe manifestations of psychopathology, particularly in the realm of depression, anxiety and neuropsychiatric illness. He has extensive experience in inpatient, residential, day hospital and emergency room care and administration and regularly performs institutional level consults to improve clinical standards and outcomes for those environments.

Dr. Rubin is an invited lecturer nationally on topics related to withdrawn behavior in youth, the treatment of pediatric depression and medical education across the medical student to postgraduate continuum. He also frequently consults to the popular media, and was featured in Horizon Films’ documentary The Passage of Time.

Laura G. Kehoe, MD, MPH

Dr. Uma Naidoo is a board-certified, Harvard-trained psychiatrist who also trained as a Professional Chef, and studied Nutrition. Upon graduating from the Cambridge School of Culinary Arts, she won the school’s most coveted award, the MFK Fisher Award for Innovation in Cooking. She is the author of the first book in Nutritional Psychiatry called: ”This Is Your Brain on Food,” which is based on her clinic and her research.

Dr. Naidoo is the Founder and Director of Nutritional and Lifestyle Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), the first and only such hospital-based program in the United States. At MGH, Dr. Naidoo also serves as the Director of Nutritional Psychiatry at the MGH Academy, the world-renowned educational organization, for which she designed and released the only CME-based Nutritional Psychiatry educational program for clinicians.

In addition to her work at MGH, Dr. Naidoo serves on the faculty at Harvard Medical School where she worked to integrate Nutritional Psychiatry into the MGH/McLean residency training curriculum since 2016. She is on the faculty of the Harvard Department of Nutrition; and The Cambridge School of Culinary Arts. Dr. Naidoo was commissioned by the American Psychiatric Association to write the first textbook in Nutritional Psychiatry.

She serves as a regular media contributor at CNBC and is on the Harvard Health Publishing Editorial Advisory Board. She has been invited by the World Economic Forum to consult on their New Frontiers of Nutrition initiative.

Internationally after being one of only four US physicians to be invited to meet personally with the former HRH The Prince of Wales, now King Charles III, she was asked to lead a public health Food for Mood Campaign with the UK College of Medicine, where she serves as the US Ambassador for Mental Health.

Stemming from her Hindu roots which emphasize the mind-body connection, Dr. Naidoo has spent her life exploring the connection between mood and food. In her work, she aims to offer individuals more tools to improve their mental well-being using nutrition, lifestyle and metabolic health as the basis of her clinical work and research.
